Drive-in Shelving Systems

Drive-in Shelving Systems

As the name suggests, it is a rack system in which the stacker can enter and process. It allows the products to be stored one after the other in a channel when loading palletized products of the same size and same type. The first floor of this shelf system is designed according to the height of the stacking device that will enter it.

Since the works are carried out with a single corridor, it provides maximum benefit in the warehouse. Each shelf channel can be designed according to different product types. This is equal to the shelf channel, it shows the number of products. Therefore, the drive-in warehouse racking system allows the use of the square meter as much as possible in cases where the number of product types is not very large.

What is the Most Appropriate Loading Method for Drive-In Rack Systems?

LIFO – Last In, First Out

In the LIFO loading method, it is predicted that the last incoming goods will be out first. It means that old stock will stay in storage longer before being sold. It is an ideal form of use for long-lasting and durable goods. It is a useful method for industries that use non-aging products.

It simplifies the logistics process as well as facilitates warehouse management. LIFO is used to stack goods of the same type.

In the LIFO loading method, it is possible to use the maximum capacity of your warehouse, as you will operate on a single wing.

FIFO – First In, First Out

In the FIFO loading method, which is the reverse of LIFO, the last entry and the first exit of the goods are foreseen. This method is efficient in terms of inventory tracking, inventory counting, and cost calculation.

It is a method used in goods with fast circulation. As it reduces the storage cost, it provides maximum profit to the enterprises.

This method is also used in sensitive products and products with limited shelf life. It is one of the most preferred food, chemical, and pharmaceutical methods.

With the FIFO method, you must operate two wings, the entrance, and the exit.

FEFO – First Expired, First Out

It is a method that is compared and confused with FIFO in terms of its working style. While FIFO is first-in-first-out, FEFO is based on the shelf life and expiry date of the goods. It removes the first products that expire first.

Considering these three methods, the characteristics of the goods you intend to stack, shelf life, and proper stacking conditions become important. Although it is possible to use three methods due to its static structure, LIFO is the most suitable, efficient, and safest method for drive-in warehouse racking systems.
